I've created this little box to give as an anniversary present to someone after doing a workshop with Hels Sheridan. I'm entering it for Hels Challenge asking for projects made in bright colours. The stamping inside the box is done with stamps from Indigo blu and Kaisercraft. I built up the lid of the box with TH and Stampin' Up die cuts and fussy cut the birds from the Paradise Collection by Craftwork Cards papers available at The Crafty Bunch in Telford. Don't you just love these papers, I do, I trimmed the lid with Stampin' Up ribbons and some vintage lace.

I made a butterfly for the inside of the box from Stampin' Up coaster board which is a good thickness but still bendable. I cut out three images with the new Tim Holz Butterfly Die and embossed them with the matching embossing folder, again available from the Crafty Bunch at Telford. After colouring the flies I stuck them together and added 3 small rosebuds on the body with some wire curly wurly antennae.

I loved Kaz Hall's project "Turn Up the Heat" in the September 2013 issue of Craft Stamper. I've had it pinned on my wall as a project to try, ever since! I immediately thought I'd make it for the Make & Take challenge in the August 2014 issue.

Little did I know how long it would take me, I've just scraped in before the deadline for entries.

I followed the technique Kaz used pretty much the same except I didn't have any heat resistant acetate for the insects. Instead I used my Melt pot to cover some real autumn leaves and used my stencil from Indigo Blu with Goldfinger acrylic paint also from Indigo Blu, on black card. I had fun with the distressing of the cardboard and added lots of Tim Holz distress inks which I also used to colour my photograph paper, spritzing it at once to make the colours merge a little. Using the free daisy stamp by Anneke De Clerck from the August 2014 Issue; I had more fun stamping and embossing in the background and also fussy cutting for one of the panels.

The sentiment and background mesh stamps are by Indigo Blu. I liked the metal embellishments after using them at a workshop with Hels Sheridan at The Crafty Bunch, Telford. and I think they finish it very well.

I liked using the Christmas set and made two cards with a tag inside and a wallet to add money or a small gift.

You can see in the last photo that I stamped the trees stamp on the background with silver and positioned the die cut trees in the foreground.

The second one was made into a slightly different scene using black embossed card in the background and torn papers to form hills, positioning the die cut trees amongst them.

This is the follow up page to TIL WE MEET AGAIN in my last post. I enlarged the photo of Grandad Sanders and framed it with a ready made frame coloured with distress inks. I added various elements and stamped images from Kaiserkraft and Katzelcraft with some die cut elements from TH and Stampin up dies. The paper is from the same range - Kaiserkraft Bee-u-tiful but in the green and yellow colours which were the perfect foil for the page. I added a big flower made from the offcuts using the tattered florals die by TH. Title letters and numbers also from Stampin up new dies.

Grandad's hope for peace by Christmas didn't happen. Being in the Royal Artillery meant he was at the front in France, repairing the big guns when they broke down and was under pressure to get them working. He wouldn't see his family for three years! He had to spend time in a sanitorium after his discharge, due to the Poison Gas he inhaled and was never to enjoy good health again.

Its a thought provoking and very poignant photo of a time in our history which has been much in the news and on TV right now here in the UK. Over at Another Freaking Scrapping Challenge they're asking for stories from the past, present or future so I'm linking it up.

1914 had started very well for them with a new baby in the family, Granddad earning good money in one of the many engineering businesses starting up in Birmingham and a home above the little general stores shop Grandma managed during the day. They were very happy and enjoying their two little girls, my Aunty Lucy age 3 and baby Lily age 1.

Then war broke out and Granddad joined the Army, as a private in the Royal Artillery. The photo, taken at the photographer's studio in the Autumn; shows Grandma and the girls dressed in their Sunday best with Granddad looking very handsome in his uniform. I can imagine my Nan was both proud of Granddad but worried about the war and if she would see her man ever again. The children just look bemused at all the excitement, and I'm sure my Granddad was thinking it would all be over by Christmas.

I used the Kaiserkraft papers from the Bee-u-tiful range again. Just love these papers.
My daughter made it into a card for my birthday and it bought such memories back of when I started to make all my own clothes. Being small I always had trouble finding anything to fit me in the shops.

I haven't stopped crafting but blogging, has been and still is difficult, as my eyes only focus for a short time.

I’m going to leave you with some of the projects I’ve been working on while recovering from surgery to my eye and knee.
Most of them are mixed media work on canvas or tags which I enjoy making.
The first is a small frame for a friend's birthday, using some of the Graphic 45 papers and other elements.I just love the new range of metal embellies out now.

The next one is a heart textured with paste and painted on both sides which has gone to Lisca my cleaner.

The very last one!! Why don't you pop over to see what others have written. I ummmeed and ahhhhed over what to pick as I have so many stories still untold - I haven't chosen a Christmassy story but one which tells a little about my story.

As a young woman my body was slim, lean and petite, like Audrey Hepburn, which other women yearned for. My sister and friends were envious of my body!
I wanted a fuller, curvier figure, as to me I looked like a boy! My boobs were non-existent.
Falsies, as they were called then, silicone implants now, were very expensive so not an option for a young working class girl.
I got married, had a busy life bringing up my two kiddies, working etc and the dream of a voluptuous body faded as attitudes to large boobs changed. Models became skinny up top and below and I felt quite lucky to be slim.
Then the ageing process kicked in, in my 40’s and I put on weight and suddenly developed Boobs!
I quite liked having them, I felt more feminine and my clothes hung better.
Trouble is the halcyon days didn't last long! Approaching my 60’s the larger I got and so did my Boobs!
Now nearing 70 my whole body’s heading South. Ahhhh!!

And I got to thinking, what if I’d had the implants, where would they end up now?
I’m so glad I didn’t have them done as I‘d be on the floor with the weight of them.
I made this bird (the purple and green one), a few years ago, to document my body's journey, it sits in my craft area and it‘s a very precious reminder to me to enjoy life whatever body you’re in.

I tried to take a new photo of it but for some reason my new printer has wiped out my memory card drive which enabled me to load my photos onto my laptop. Until I sort it out I cannot upload photos to my blog!! Very frustrating!!!

Thank you for reading my story and I hope you have a lovely Sunday!

Why don't you sit for awhile and read all the stories on offer this month.

Here is mine.
In the summer I went with my granddaughter, Daisy to visit some friends in Cumbria. We were hoping to visit the home of Beatrix Potter at Hill Top Farm in the Lake District. Beatrix wrote many of the Peter Rabbit Collection of stories here at the farm and Daisy wanted to see her drawings and paintings in real life. There were so many tourists doing the same thing and the roads were very busy so my friend thought it would be better if we returned in the half term when it would be quieter. I wrote this story earlier in the year for Storytelling Sunday, where I introduced Mrs Tiggywinkle to you all and here's her story today.

Anyone who has read the Beatrix Potter books, knows about Mrs Tiggywinkle and the rest of the characters she created and when Mom saw a pattern in the Woman's Weekly to knit the little figures she set to work straightaway.

This was about 20 years ago and Mom was making soft toys to raise funds for the Childrens' Hospital in Birmingham where many children from all over the country were treated for cancer. Mom's partner was a volunteer driver for the hospital and had to pick up a child from a remote farm up in the Lake District, not far from Hill Top Farm. On this trip the farmer had to carry his daughter down to the main road as the access to the farm was deep in snow. Mom used to go in the car too and would sit knitting away while they were travelling. She was making Mrs Tiggywinkle on this trip so when the little girl saw it she asked if she could have one too. Mom promised she would have that one when it was finished. She kept her word and when, a few weeks later, the little girl was going home, Mom gave it to her. I loved Mrs Tiggywinkle too so Mom made one for me. She stayed in my bedroom but was always available for any visiting children to play with. When Daisy was born she loved playing with her and eventually claimed Mrs Tiggwinkle as her own. She spent the last eight years in Daisy's bedroom, on her bed.. She's back with me now, still very precious but a bit shabby and once again sits on my bed. I've mended her head which was in danger of falling off and repaired the stitching around her waist which had come undone so now she looks a bit smarter.

Last week was half term in the UK and Daisy and I travelled up to the Lake District and visited the home of Beatrix Potter. Mrs Tiggywinkle was coming with us to Cumbria so we could have our photo taken outside her creator's home, but................. my memory is getting as bad as my eyes and she was left in the house along with my camera!!! I did get a shot with my phone camera though to prove we were there. We had a lovely time and I'm sure I shall enjoy scrapping the few photos I did take. Thank you for joining me today on Sian's Storytelling Sunday. Why don't you pop over and read some more stories or better still, have a try at telling your own pick your precious story.
I love September as I can start collecting all the memories I made in the Summer and getting them down on paper.

Today it’s Storytelling Sunday over at High in the Sky so it’s time to Pick your Precious! Maybe about a lucky charm or a talisman you wouldn't be without or carry in your pocket.

My story is about something precious that I carry around but not in my pocket...............

A few weeks ago I was staying with my granddaughter Daisy at my friend’s hotel in Cumbria in the UK. We were in our room, freshening up for dinner and Daisy wanted her hair plaited, in a grown up plait, she said. She looked so sweet in her short red skirt, navy blue top and one big plait draped over her shoulder.

Her top had a caption on it which I smiled at as she stood there. It said HAPPY, always wear a smile. I must take your photo Daisy to show your Mom and Dad how pretty you look. She posed in front of the mirror and I got the picture, a little out of focus I know but you get the picture I’m sure.

Now it’s your turn Nan, she said, I pulled a few funny faces as I hate having my photo taken but she didn’t press the button. I want you to smile Nan she said. I smiled and she took ages before she pressed the button.

Got it she said. I love when you smile Nan but I had to wait for the end of it as that’s the best part, when the holes come in your cheeks.

(I think she means my dimples) That's what we call them in my neck of the woods anyway

So you see, it seems I’m carrying something precious around with me and I didn’t even know I had it until that day!

Now I’m all smiles every time I think about what she said.

I'll be a bit late reading your stories as we are going for a trip to a Butterfly farm in Worcestershire today. Daisy's last treat before school starts on Monday. Yuck! Her word not mine! It also ensures she arises early today so goes to bed earlier tonight! Good ploy on DD's part.

I'll be popping over to read all the other stories later, why don't you pop over too. You wont be disappointed

Hope you all have a great day and thank you for reading my story.
Our first time and it was very comfortable, clean and with air con. Brilliant. The staff were very kind and gave me a burn gel pack to stop the blistering too much. As you can see Daisy loved her new hat!!!

I was just recovering from that when a friend phoned to come to stay for a few days and we had a lovely time exploring Shropshire which culminated with a trip to the theatre, my birthday treat from her and my other friend Mary. We saw The Lion King. Breathtaking, wonderful and the best feel good show ever. Forget London, come up to Birmingham and see it at the Birmingham Hippodrome. They put on a fantastic show!

I'm so lucky to have such lovely people in my life.

My other good news is about MY MOM. Finally, the x rays show her leg is healing over the plates she has in her hip and leg and she can at last bear her full weight on the leg without fear it's going to break again. She still has a mammoth task to get back on her feet but she's determined to have a go! What a star she is!!! I'm so proud of her and her attitude to all she's endured since last December.

Sorry I haven't been doing any Blog hopping and leaving comments but hopefully next month will be less hectic.

It's a long weekend holiday this weekend in the England so have a good weekend wherever you are and thanks for reading this far.jeanie ghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02951068385431574532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7552428001943670631.post-44287814001247936902013-07-28T13:46:00.000-07:002013-07-28T13:46:09.607-07:00"U"- July challenge at Berry71bleuHi Everyone here is my entry for the July challenge at Berry71Bleu where you are challenged to do anything!! This is a bit of a tall order as you suddenly have the freedom to go anywhere with whatever and it’s SCARY!!

Do I go for plain and simple, pretty, pretty, a good story, WHAT??? I've mulled over it for weeks and had given up when I read Anupama’s blog post about her LO she had created. I was inspired by her beautiful work to try my hand at a mixed media page simply called “U”.

I had this gorgeous photo of Daisy looking more like 12 than eight, taken last Easter by her Mom who is a much better photographer than me. (She has a Degree in it) I cut two copies of it into heart shapes and just flew with it from there. Hope you like the finished results.
The flowers were made from kitchen roll which had mopped up my paint and some of the purple vellum from the vellum hearts I used.

Simply a Moment - Where the Muse takes You!

Right I thought, as I struggled into my flat with four bags of shopping for myself, carried singly I might add, I’ll just check my emails to see if Paula has sent me her grocery list. She’s away with the family in Kefalonia, in the Greek Isles, lucky things and said she’d email me if she wanted shopping done for when they come home.

I logged on to my email thinking, I might as well check through them all, as I scrolled down my list. I‘d had one from Berry71Bleu about the July challenge to do ANYTHING you like! This is a bit of a tall order as you suddenly have the freedom to go anywhere with whatever and it’s SCARY!! Do I go for plain and simple, pretty, pretty, a good story, WHAT??? I’d been struggling with this one for a while. The email was about a post from Anupama Choudrey and I opened it eagerly to read. Her work is so amazing, very mixed media but artistically so. Her page for the challenge was beautiful.

That’s what I could do, I thought, a mixed media page!

I forgot completely about shopping, feeding animals, or cleaning which is what I should have been doing.

My excitement grew as I printed out my photos of Daisy to scrap and set to work with paints, inks and papers. This was a special photo taken by my daughter last year and to me marked the passage of time from young child to blossoming girl. It needed a special page.

I chose to work with acrylic paint, ink and mica powders to create the initial background which was stamped with bubble wrap and paint, sprayed with water, then had inks and mica splattered and dribbled on it.

A moment of bliss, pure bliss!

Not the result, just the process!!!

With Elvis on my CD player belting out his love songs, which always help with the flow, I gradually built up my background until I was reasonably satisfied with the effect.

The ping of my laptop alerting me to a new email suddenly brought me back to reality. Oh dear, where had the time gone? I was only logging on for a moment! Looking around my room, with every surface covered in paper, paint, embellishments etc. I quickly piled every thing up into a tidy-ish heap and opened my new email.

It was from my daughter to say their flight was delayed and they wouldn’t be home until tomorrow.
A happy dance around my room, with Elvis back on the CD player I dived into the heap and was instantly lost in finishing my page!

Well, when inspiration strikes you have to respond don’t you?
I was experimenting with bubble wrap for the challenge at Scrap for Help and decided to use the golden yellow with faux white bubbles paper for this LO. I used white THDI randomly on my strip of bubble wrap and stamped it onto the paper to create my bubbles. The little submarine, octopus, fishes and diver are fussy cut from the packaging for a children's pack of die-cut sheets of plain card in a card making kit, which is also the challenge at LESSology to use packing.
At Do More with Less, Savannah has a challenge to use stamp masking to make your own messages or titles. Hi there it's been another very hot day here in the UK after a little cooler spell over the weekend. I'm so glad it's staying hot for the kiddies who have all now started their holidays here in the UK.

Scrap for Help are asking you to use bubble wrap and recycled materials this month. Because of the heat, I haven't done much in the scrapping line this week but I did have a play with some bubble wrap.
I have been collecting loads of these while commuting over to Birmingham on the train.
I overstamped with various stamps with a time or travel theme mixing
and masking the stamps to achieve the effect I wanted. I cut some into tickets
and left others as they are to take more embellishments
I can't. I have boxes of felt tip, gel, calligraphy etc pens of all sorts of colours, bright and soft, metallic, non permanent etc etc etc. Among all these come the good old fashioned biro or ballpoint pens.

I made this pen holder out of a toilet roll tube, two circles cut from a sheet of packaging card and the inside of a ribbon reel. I'm entering this at LESSology Challenge #27 - Packaging Central, to use packaging creatively this month. Why don't you pop over and have a go too.
This was easy peasy to make in a couple of hours, half of which was spent looking for.............Yes you guessed it............my pens!! Lol

I cut out 2 circles, one slightly larger than the roll and the other slightly larger than the first. Take the smaller circle and snip all the way round the circle every couple of cms. Fold these in to fit the circle inside the tube and push it inside from the top until it fits snugly inside the base of the roll. Glue the larger circle to the bottom and then glue the ribbon reel over the top. This makes the base sturdier and gives a good platform for adding some embellishments.

I used up some of my large stock of green offcut papers to wrap around the cardboard roll, triimed it with some green spotted washi tape, used some white flowers coloured with TH dsitress paint, adding brads to the middles and a selection of green buttons to trim over the joins of the papers. Lastly, some very old alphas to make a banner spelling the word Pens, et voila!

TIP. I wrapped some of the washi tape around each of my pens, easily identified if they land in the wrong box, I can always see them at once. I'm making another two of these, one for black and white journalling pens and another for my metallic gels for card writing.

I'm chasing my tail to finish another LO for BITW which ends tonight. I racked my brain, which didn't take long it's so small. I had loads of ideas to use people in my life who I feel are the most courageous people I know but I couldn't match photos to paper. The idea for this one has been on my desk for a few days but it's been so HOT here, I've been drained of any remaining brain power to finish it. Last night the weather cooled for a few hours and I got to work. I made a film strip from black shiny card and placed 3 photos of my little brother taking his first steps onto my circle page from Kaisercraft.
My Dad was so proud of his little boy after having two girls and just had to get this day recorded on Mom's little box Brownie camera. I scanned the original for this copy as it's so old and wrinkled as you can see. I'll be back later to add some close up's. Need to get ready for church right now.........

Firstly, I remember a Wimbledon Final in 1967 when John Newcombe won the Men's Singles. I gave birth to my son that day and it was my 23rd Birthday too. The second reason is that Andrew Murray's win today at Wimbledon will go a long way to dull the previous memories of the 7th July London Bombings. My son was still the best present, even though I'm still praying he will come through his long and painful fight against addiction.

I was going to tell you the story surrounding my son's arrival for this Pick Your Precious but I can't find the photo I wanted to scrap and show. I think it must still be in the attic at my previous home, I left without many things last year that I hold dear.

And so here is my story for this month........... the tale of Edward Bear written for Storytelling Sunday- Pick your Precious at High in the Sky.
Let me introduce Edward, aka Teddy, who will be celebrating his 10th birthday later this year. I saw him originally sitting on a shelf in a local toy store and thought he was a real character. My daughter had just confirmed she was pregnant with her first child so I was very excited and bought him at once. I took him home and he took up residence in my bedroom all wrapped up waiting for the great day to arrive. Every few weeks I would take him out and have a private conversation about how happy I was that my daughter, at the age of 34, was at last becoming a mother! Towards the end of her time she started to develop problems, finally being diagnosed with Toxemia/Pre Eclampsia and was admitted to hospital to rest.

Her condition worsened until it was too dangerous for the pregnancy to continue. After five days being in labour it was decided to perform a Ceasarian operation. It was a tense time while we waited for news! Thankfully they both survived.
Great news today!
Paula and John Dower are happy to announce the safe arrival of their first daughter, Daisy Anne by Ceasarian section at 4pm at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Daisy weighed in at a tiny 5lb 4oz but is perfect in every way.
We arrived just as they were wheeling her into a side ward, the baby was in an incubator by her bed. I had taken Ted with me but I didn’t leave him there. Daisy looked so tiny and vulnerable and Paula suggested I keep him at my house until later. I was happy to do so as he’d been such a comfort to me. Later she said perhaps he should stay with me as she was unsure about giving a baby a toy with glass beads for eyes. I understood and Teddy stayed with me after that, sitting on my bed every day and listening to my many troubled times. I brought him with me when I moved to my flat where he sat on my bed and helped me get through the dark times. Earlier this year Daisy, now 9 yrs old, came to sleepover at my flat. She sleeps with a few soft toys at home and asked for Ted to add to to her collection. I told her about Teddy’s story and she was so happy to hear he was originally meant for her. She asked if he could come to her house now as she liked his eyes being glass beads. She would knit him a blue jumper (with Nan’s help), I could borrow Mrs Tiggywinkle in place of Ted, she said. Now that’s another story............
I'd had delivery of some Indigo Blu stamps which were a free gift from a magazine subscription and really liked the quotes on them about this Earth and Nature.I added some dried leaf and petal pockets, plus lace and stitching and beads
I used the Purple Pumpkin sketch as my starting point for the page and then altered it slightly to incorporate the sequins I wanted to add. My background papers are a TH Ideology page and some red coordinations paper.
Using sequins is the last of the Lets Get Trendy 3 techniques from the DT's which I found a bit challenging to say the least! I had this photo of Abi in the bath which I love as it reminds me of the time she used to spend at our house before her sister was born - happy times!
I framed the photo with the left over card from a sheet of Chronology postcards by Papermania. I glued it to the photo then backed with some dots card I'd been experimenting on. I used the rest of the card to make my strips under the photo. The flowers are all handmade from kitchen roll and a bit of left over scrap papers. The tag is a piece of corrugated card with a scrap sentiment stamped for a bigger project. I wrote my journalling on the back which reads -
You loved visiting Nan's for a sleepover and a bath with bubbles was compulsory. You were trying to make Santa's beard with the bubbles here. So Cute!! The washers are courtesy of my plumber who donated them to me in exchange for numerous cups of coffee. I used a white distress ink pad to make the circles. My torn paper is sewn together with wire. My lettering is old die cuts and chipboard pieces which I embossed with copper and seafoam powders to blend with my page.
Thats the last of the challenges for Let's Get Trendy 3 and now I'm entering all five for an extra prize. Wish me luck everyone and thanks for looking again folks and for any feedback.
Happy Hump Day to everyone.jeanie ghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02951068385431574532noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7552428001943670631.post-29226273743538419212013-06-25T04:08:00.003-07:002013-06-25T04:08:25.930-07:00Cards for Lets Get Trendy-now 3.and Tone Lill's Challenges.

Hi Everyone it's a lovely sunny day in my neck of the woods and it makes me happy to hear the birds singing outside. My heating is ON folks just when I don't need it. lol It's lovely to have the hot water again too. Think we all need a spot of going without sometimes so we appreciate what we do have!

I had another day crafting while the men were working, not naked in pinnies I hasten to add and came up with some more cards. At Do More With Less- Yvonnes guest designer Tone-Lill has a challenge and tutorial to use something from your kitchen cupboard - aluminium foil! I tried it and put it through my die cut but it was too thin. For my second attempt I backed the foil with double sided sheets and it went through a treat! I also distressed it a bit for the antiquey look and here's what I made.

Using sizzlit dies. I also cut a couple of birdcages like the one on my card below which I backed with paper and cut the middle two sections out so you can peek through. The papers are oddments and stamps from Indigo Blue and the Craft Stamper freebie again. I added some tied muslin which I'd coloured with distress ink.

Last but not least another card using torn papers with the sentiment from the Craft Stamper freebie. I've really enjoyed seeing all the tutorials and inspiration the DT have done and a big thank you from me for all your hard work.

Thanks again for looking and all your sweet comments.
