My Funny Day!!

It's been a very funny week this week and today was no different.I've been in a lot of pain over the last few weeks with sciatica in my left leg, from where my spine is collapsing and I've been having physio every  Friday.  By today, Friday, I was back in a lot of pain, not helped by having to hunt for my lost car key and my gas meter cupboard key. I thought  "here we go, it's going to be one of those funny days again" Then the postie came with 3 letters. The first was the phone bill which did nothing for my mood.  The second was from the Benefits people telling me I was going to get some financial help with paying rent etc. Hooray I thought, now I can keep my little car!
Then I opened the third one; this was a complete surprise and the icing on my happy cake.  It was a lovely birthday card from Maria here with some added die cuts, which will be perfect for adding to my craft day makes when I've decorated them.

Later, I still couldn't find my car key and had to go to physio in a taxi.  To cheer myself up after, I decided to make a granary loaf to practise getting to know my oven.

Having set it to rise in the oven on very low, I also found some cooking apples to be used up and  thought I'd make an apple pie and a few scones too. Perched on my stool I set to work on my dough. I set my apple pastry mix to cool in the fridge and mixed  my scone mix.  I set this aside to make up my apple pie and put this to bake first in the oven. I rolled my scone mix into 6 large scones and added these to the oven as the pie was finishing. My, I thought, that pie looks good!!

When my scones were done I intended to eat one with the strawberry syrup I'd made to go with them but they looked awful!! Like little bread buns.  Yes you guessed it, I mixed the bowls up and now I have the most delicious Apple Scone Pie and six Pastry buns destined for the birds!!

I couldn't help trying the pie with a spoon of ice cream and it was delicious.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

  5. Well it looks delicious so what a great mix up. Its good to hear that at least even with the few mishaps things are still coming together and that you sound up beat, I'm sure your new fixtures in your bathroom are going to bring some added reliefs to your ailments. Hope you got some eye candy in those workers, wink..lol

  6. I came to your blog through your story on Crescendoh. Thank you for sharing your experiences! I really like your work. And this post in particular spoke to me because it reminded me of some of my own misadventures in the kitchen :) Like the time I spattered cupcake batter all over the place, or the time I put way too much cayenne pepper in my taco meat... But your apple scone pie does look delicious!
