From Russia With Eggs - SFH and The Colour Room Challenges

What with all this snowy weather back again and coming to terms with some bad news about my mobility, or lack of it lately, I needed some smiles so I made the Smiley family.  Gramps and Granny Smiley, Mom and Dad, the 3 kids and the baby.  I put them in the bottom of my oven while cooking my dinner and they got a bit scorched underneath.  Daisy and I ate them anyway!!  They didn't scream too much!!

This little egg is the subject of a story told by the lady who gave it to me. She was in Moscow on August 19th 1991 when the Coup D'Etat was taking place. I decided to make a page about it and write the story of it's adventure.  Sorry about the quality it's difficult to get good photos in the gloomy days we're having.

Here's the layout I came up with using burlap for the SFH and The Colour Room challenges.

I made a bird from my burlap by covering one side of the fabric with double sided tape and put it through my die cut machine. Then I coloured it with metallic rub on paste and added some glossy accents in black and white. I also used some of the threads to sew onto the silver houses in the bottom right corner.

Can you see the moulded papier mache key peeking under the bird and flower on the left?  I've been making them at Wyldewoods along with masks and other goodies.  I'll save that for another post  later. I also used a recycled card from my brand of tea to make my journalling card behind the eggs and die cut a birdcage from an old Christmas card.  I'll be posting the story to this layout at the beginning of April if you want to pop by and read it.  Hope you like it.

Thank you for looking and for any comments you leave me. Your comments and opinions are truly valued!

  2. Thanks so much for joining us once more at S4H! I always look forward to seeing your projects.

I love how you made the bird, and it has such wonderful texture. I'm curious about the story behind your Russian egg, so you can bet that I'll be reading your blog again in April to find out what happened.

  4. Hi Jean, Your lovely lo put a big smile on my face as did those cute cookies you baked. I am so glad to see you among our participants again. I am impressed that you made a bird from the burlap instead of just adding a square to your lo. Very creative! I will be back to read your story later.
    Hugs!!
